We are pleased to announce that Dr. Fabiola Brusciotti from TECNALIA Surface Engineering had the honor of presenting PROPLANET’s latest advancements at the highly regarded NanoInnovation 2024 conference, held in Rome from September 9–13, 2024. NanoInnovation is a leading event that brings together researchers, innovators, and industry leaders to explore cutting-edge developments in nanotechnology and related fields.
During the conference, Dr. Angelo Meduri from RINA played a pivotal role by chairing the session in which Dr. Brusciotti presented PROPLANET’s pioneering research. Her presentation, titled “PFAS-Free Sol-Gel Hybrid Coatings with Hydrophobic and Non-Stick Properties for Low-Maintenance Glass and Kitchenware Applications”, drew significant attention from the audience, highlighting PROPLANET’s commitment to providing innovative, sustainable alternatives to harmful PFAS-based coatings.
Dr. Brusciotti’s work focused on the development of advanced sol-gel hybrid coatings that offer hydrophobic and non-stick properties, specifically designed for low-maintenance applications in glass and kitchenware. These PFAS-free coatings represent a significant breakthrough in surface engineering, providing durable, high-performance solutions that are both environmentally friendly and safe for human health. By eliminating the use of hazardous PFAS substances, PROPLANET’s coating technologies align with the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) principles, promoting the responsible use of materials and reducing long-term environmental impacts.
The presentation sparked enthusiastic discussions among participants, with many recognising the potential of these innovative coatings to revolutionise a wide range of industries. The hydrophobic properties ensure that surfaces repel water, reducing the need for frequent cleaning, while the non-stick attributes make these coatings ideal for use in kitchenware, where ease of maintenance and safety are paramount.
Dr. Brusciotti’s presentation not only underscored the technical excellence of PROPLANET’s research but also provided a platform for the project to engage with a broader community of scientists and industry professionals.
