The COATINGS 2026 Conference concluded, marking a key milestone as the final event of the PROPLANET project. This highly successful and engaging event, bringing together experts, researchers, and industry stakeholders for several days of insightful exchange and collaboration. The opening day set a strong foundation, featuring a rich programme of presentations alongside a well-attended welcome cocktail. The EXELISIS booth, co-organiser of the conference together with MDPI, served as a vibrant meeting point for discussions and idea sharing among participants.
The second day continued with an intensive and inspiring agenda as part of the PROPLANET Project Final Event. Highlights included a presentation by Dr. Fabiola Brusciotti (TECNALIA Research & Innovation), who presented advances in PFAS-free sol-gel hybrid coatings for sustainable applications in cookware, glass, and food-packaging equipment. Poster sessions were also launched, showcasing work by Dr. Ioanna Katsavou (EXELISIS IKE) on assessing market readiness and business models for PFAS-free Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) coating solutions, as well as research by Antonio Borrego Ortega (Universidad de Málaga) on a multiobjective optimization framework for sustainable coating production processes. The day concluded with a gala dinner that fostered networking and collaboration.
The final day marked a strong conclusion to the conference, with high-quality presentations, engaging poster sessions, and the presentation of conference awards. PROPLANET project activities were prominently featured, including an oral presentation by the project coordinator Johannes Seif on the PROPLANET replication tool for digital innovation in PFAS-free coating development. In addition, Eleonora Longhin presented a poster on tiered hazard assessment using new approach methodologies for PFAS-free coatings within an SSbD framework.
Overall, COATINGS 2026 provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the advancement of sustainable coating technologies. The PROPLANET consortium expressed its appreciation to all participants and contributors who made the event both impactful and memorable.
