Legal Milestone in Italy Highlights Urgency for PFAS-Free Solutions

A major legal milestone has recently been reached in Italy, setting a precedent in addressing PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) pollution. The case involves legal action tied to environmental contamination and public health concerns in the Veneto region—highlighting the growing pressure on both governments and industries to take decisive action against the widespread use of these so-called “forever chemicals.”

This decision reflects a broader shift in European legal and regulatory frameworks, where the environmental and health impacts of PFAS are under increasing scrutiny. As the risks associated with PFAS gain public and legal attention, the demand for safer, sustainable alternatives is rapidly rising across industries.

Aligned with this mission, the PROPLANET Project is proactively developing three innovative PFAS-free coatings tailored for glass, textile, and metallic surfaces. These coatings are being designed under the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach, which ensures that safety, performance, and environmental responsibility go hand-in-hand. Our solutions aim to replicate the performance advantages of conventional PFAS-based coatings—such as durability, stain resistance, and water repellency—without the environmental cost.
